There is a mistake and she is sent back to 1348 when the plague hits the area. Simultaneously there is a viral outbreak developing into a pandemic in the modern day Oxford area. Kivrin does not realise the mistake until the village starts to fall ill. The time travel centre don't realise the mistake until two weeks after the drop and by then everyone is ill, afraid or dead. Connie Willis weaves the two stories together seamlessly and tension builds as the story unfolds. The story is slow to begin but the pace speeds up until the gripping conclusion. It is a substantial read at 578 pages.Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. |
